What is your opinion about Africa?

What is your opinion about Africa?
Do you find it as a bad place? Or is the media trying to make it appear that way? Is all of it just bad? I think so, but a family member of mine disagrees. Instead they are saying that despite the bad qualities, Africa also has good qualities
Africa is extremely diverse. The media and the general public always talk about “Africa” as if it is uniform throughout the entire continent, but that is far from the truth. Different nations and people have different histories, cultures, and issues. It’s not the same.
The media DOES make Africa seem like a horrible and hopeless part of the world. What will you learn about Africa from the media:
-Civil War
-Genocide
-Poverty
-Corruption
-Diseases
-Oil
-Cool Animals
Gee, if you look at the media, you would think that the only good thing about Africa is the wildlife! How sad!
But it’s false. There are a lot of African nations that are NOT currently in a state of civil war. There are nations that are safe to travel to. There are rich and diverse cultures.
Another interesting thing that the media almost never shows is CITIES. I think it’s really interesting that you never see African cities on television. They always show Africa as if it’s still a completely tribal part of the world where the people are as wild as the animals, when in actuality, there are many cities throughout Africa.
Many of the modern problems in Africa are the result of European Imperialism, corruption, and exploitation by foreign industries, so it’s no that “Africa is hopeless”. It’s more true that attempts to progress are undermined. But there are many African nations that are progressing a lot. The media doesn’t cover Africa, so I doubt most people will notice, but these nations are on the rise and they have the resources to become economic powers in the world. It’s already beginning to happen. We need to take Africa more seriously and stop calling it “Africa”. Talk about Tanzania or Nigeria or specific nations. It’s much more helpful than just saying “Africa”.
