In fulfillment of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to expand access to quality education, construction work is on-going on an initial 73 Community Senior Day High Schools.
“Work will begin this year in 50 other locations”
Mr. Kwabena Nkansah Asare, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, was interacting with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at his office at Akim Oda, on the nationwide enrolment at the second cycle level.
The MCE stated that between 2013 and 2014, enrolment at the second cycle level increased about 10 per cent nationwide.
“This is the direct result of the general improvement of teaching and learning, including the provision of critical infrastructure,” he said.
According to him, more than 1,000 different projects, ranging from dormitories, classrooms, dining halls, auditoriums and administrative blocks, have been executed in secondary schools across the country.
Mr. Asare said this year the government was implementing a number of interventions under a 156-million-dollar Secondary Education Improvement Programme.
The interventions, among others are, providing leadership training for heads of second cycle schools, building the capacity of 6,500 mathematics, science and I.C.T., improving facilities and quality of education in 125 existing secondary schools.
