Who is a rope maker and what do they do? The rope maker handles the machine that assembles the thin ends that constitute the rope into a compact cord.

What are the activities of the rope maker job?
Feeds the material in coils on to the machine, threading the material around spindles on the machine, withdraws the coils or rolls produced at the end and repairs any breakages in the thread. The cord maker uses materials such as esparto (a type of coarse grass), plastic fibres, and rigid or elastic materials, of different thicknesses depending on the type of cord to be made and its purpose. S/he also works with more delicate materials such as nylon, cotton or silk, which are used especially in the textiles and for decoration.
Where is it done and under what conditions? S/he works with fibres, which can sometimes give off irritating particles that can produce some allergies or industrial illnesses.
What tools/equipment do they use? Coils, fibres, spindles, textiles, and various machines.
What do you need to succeed? This is a craft-industry occupation. In order to perform this task basic primary education should be enough. An appropriate qualification can only be achieved through experience and practising.
