His/her main activities include inspecting the goods purchased by customers, checking the price of each item and entering it, by hand or electronically with the cash-register scanner, accepting cash from customers for goods they purchased, returning their change, accepting payments by credit cards, cheques or meal tickets – the sale of certain goods sold at the cash register, and the wrapping of certain goods.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In shops, department stores and supermarkets, where the work environment usually presents no problems, with the exception of shift working and work at weekends.
What tools/equipment do they use? The cash register, and increasingly, a computer or a computer terminal.
What do you need to succeed? You need vocational training and primarily the ability to work fast and accurately, and to work with numbers, concentration, precision, and reliability.
