Who is a beautician and what do they do?
Beauticians and beauty therapists provide professional care of the skin.
What are the activities of the beautician? Professionally examines the skin and decides how to treat it and what products to apply – cleans and steams the skin – removes unwanted hair – does cosmetic massage – prepares and applies face packs – professionally applies make-up – provides advice on how to treat the skin cosmetically – tests and assesses new cosmetics – does make-up for film, television and theatre (where they may be known as make-up artists) – and is in charge of ordering and buying cosmetics.
Where is it done and under what conditions? The job is done in cosmetic sales departments of shops, or in beauty clinics, health farms and beauty salons. You can expect contact with various chemicals.

What tools/equipment do they use?
The tools most used are steaming devices, depilatory needles, tweezers, lamps, magnifying glasses, medicinal and decorative cosmetics (masks, creams, lotions, make-up). You must also be skilful with your hands.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed an apprenticeship, be skilful with your hands and have sensitive fingers, aesthetic awareness, be clean, with a cultivated appearance and manners, and have the ability to deal with people.
