Who is a boilermaker or fitter and what do they do? The boilermaker makes, installs, dismantles and repairs boilers of central heating systems and their parts or related equipment such as burners, air ducts, grates, tanks, gas tanks, etc.
What are the activities of the boilermaker or fitter? To make, assemble, install, test, maintain and repair boilers, tanks, storage towers, heat exchangers and other heavy-metal structures of that kind. This may involve cutting, bending, and welding metal.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In factories, power stations, heating plants, laboratories etc. There will be noise, dirt, and sometimes longer periods away from home.
What tools/equipment do they use? Craft hand tools, welding gear, flame cutters, presses, and measuring instruments.
What do you need to succeed? To succeed in this job you need apprentice training, manual skill, and technical understanding.
