Who is an orthotist or prosthetist and what do they do? The orthotist/prosthetist supplies and fits artificial limbs (prostheses) to amputees or surgical appliances (orthoses) to help movement and correct deformities (e.g. of the spine). Other job titles may include orthopaedic technologist. They may also assist an orthopaedic surgeon.
What are the activities of the orthotist or prosthetist job? Designs, makes, fits and repairs leg or arm prostheses, vertebral column corsets, various supports and other orthopaedic aids, in accordance with medical prescriptions and patient needs.

What do you need to succeed? You need at least apprentice training, and manual skills. In some countries there are university level courses in prosthetics and orthotics, combining theoretical study with clinical practice.
