Who is a retoucher and what do they do?

The retoucher reproduces printing copies from the original models.
What are the activities of the retoucher job? He/she uses all retouching techniques, e.g. spraying the background of multicoloured montages, finishing the drawing, reproduction of lines and colours by means of photomechanical and electronic appliances, final treatment and printing of reproduced products, adjustment to the size prescribed.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In photographic laboratories with the minimum of unfavourable conditions, except for chemical substances.
What tools/equipment do they use? Writing and drawing tools, paint-spraying guns, colour charts, scanners, cameras, enlarging appliances, measuring instruments, printing and reproduction technology, cutting machines and manual skills.
What do you need to succeed? You need initial training, aesthetic creativity, precision, neatness, concentration, manual skills, good eyesight and a feeling for colours.
