  1. Department of General Art Studies M.Phil – Art Education

A good BA, BFA, BPhil or Bed degree (1st or 2nd Class) in Art
Education or any Visual Arts discipline from KNUST or other recognised university. Submission of a synopsis on a topic will be required. A good pass (65% or better) at an entrance examination is required and an interview will be conducted
for applicants. At least two (2) years teaching or school administration experience required.
PhD- Art Education
MA, MPhil, MFA or MEd. Art Education or any Visual Arts discipline from KNUST or other recognised university. Submission of a proposal will be required. A good pass (70% or better) at an entrance examination is required. A selection interview will be conducted. At least Two (2) years teaching or School administration experience. Evidence of journal publication/conferences attended.
M.Phil – African Art and Culture
A good BA or BPhil degree (1st or 2nd Class) in any field of Arts from any recognised university; Evidence of prior learning and experience in Research Methodology and Thesis Writing, Submission of a Synopsis on an appropriate topic in the field of Arts; A good pass (65% or better) at an entrance examination and selection interview to be determined by the Department Board; At least two
(2) years working experience in the field of Arts.
PhD – African Art and Culture
MA or MPhil African Art & Culture degree from KNUST or any recognised university; Evidence of prior learning and experience in Research Methodology at the master level; Submission of a Dissertation proposal on an appropriate topic in the field of Arts; Evidence of research scholarship such as Thesis, Project Report or journal publication; A good pass (70% or better) at an entrance examination and selection interview to be determined by the Departmental Board; at least two

Admission Requirements for MFA
Candidates must possess either a BA (Art) or BFA degree or its equivalent, preferably with First Class or Second Class (Upper Division). Candidates with other qualifications and divisions may be admitted after an interview.

MFA Metal Smithing, Jewellery, Textiles Design and Ceramics Admission Requirements
A good first degree in Metalsmithing and Jewellery, Textile Design and Ceramics or its equivalent from a recognized university. Candidate will have to pass an interview and must present a portfolio. Second Class Lower division with two years working experience may be considered.

Admission Requirements:
a)Applicants must have a first degree in Integrated Rural Art and Industry preferably a First Class or Second Class Honors (Upper Division) or a first degree in a closely related field. Applicants with Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated Art will be admitted to the Second Year of the Masters Degree programme. Candidates with a second class lower division and considerable relevant professional experience may also apply.

  1. b) Applicants must be successful at an interview and assessment of portfolio in the areas of research.

A Two (2) – Year Programme
M.Phil (Economics) – A good first degree in Economics at least Second Class (Upper Division). Candidates must have done Econometrics, Advanced Economic Theory and Mathematics for Economists at the undergraduate level in a recognized tertiary institution. Admission is subject to passing an interview.
A Three (3) – Year Programme
Ph.D (Economics) – A good first degree in Economics at least Second Class (Upper Division) plus a good masters degree in economics or related field at least an overall grade of a B or equivalent, with sufficient background in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics from a recognized tertiary institution. A good background in statistics and Mathematics will be an added advantage. A thesis proposal on the proposed thesis topic is required. Admission is subject to passing an interview.

Admission Requirements
Candidates must hold a good 1st degree in French or a Postgraduate Qualification relevant to the area of study from a recognised university. In addition, candidates may be required to pass a written examination and interview.
Ph.D French
Admission Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in French from a recognised University and must submit a research proposal acceptable to the Postgraduate Coordinating Team. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
 

  1. Department of English M.Phil (English)

Admission Requirements
For admission into the MPhil programme, an applicant should have graduated in English major. All applicants must pass an interview.
Ph.D (in literature) Admission Requirements
For admission into the PhD programme, an applicant should possess an MA or MPhil in English. In addition, candidates in the Department’s MPhil programme, who perform well in their first year of course work, may be recommended by the Department for transfer to the PhD programme.

Admission Requirements:
MPhil (Two Years) – A candidate must have obtained a good first degree (Second Class Upper division or better) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution.
MA (One Year) – A candidate must have obtained a good first degree (Second Class lower division or better) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. For both programmes a candidate with the Social Sciences or Humanities background must in addition at least have a Diploma in Theology/Religious Studies from a recognised/accredited Institution or Seminary. Admission is subject to passing an interview.

A good first degree in Sociology or Social Work from an approved University. For the purposes of assessing suitability, candidates may be interviewed or be required to take entrance examination or both.

Business, logistics, shipping, procurement, retailing, marketing, project management, pharmacy and engineering.

  1. Applicant must have a first degree with a minimum second class lower division in logistics, procurement, operations and/ or supply chain management with relevant working experience or;
  2. First degree with a minimum of second class lower division in any business related discipline or economics with relevant working experience in the areas of logistics, procurement, operations or supply chain.

iii. Firs degree with a minimum second class lower division in any discipline and a chartered member of CIPS, CILT, IOM or ISCM with relevant working experience.

  1. Foreign Students should be able to proof proficiency in English by showing evidence that instruction during their tertiary education was in English.

M.Phil: These programmes are offered to students with architecture background, after obtaining a first undergraduate degree. Admission to these programmes may be preceded by an interview.
 
MSc. Architecture
Students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma (or higher) in Architecture and related fields of study from recognized university will be admitted into the programme.

  1. Students must demonstrate relevant experiences as well as the capacity to undertake advanced academic study.
  2. Portfolio of architectural studies (or related fields) works.
  3. In addition to these requirements, all applicants must pass an interview by a panel from the Departmental Board.

 

  1. Department of Building Technology M.Sc /MPhil – Construction Management

12 months for MSC and 2yrs for MPhil.

12 months for MSC and 2yrs for MPhil.

Candidates must hold a good bachelor’s degree in Architecture,
Building Technology, Quantity Surveying Civil Engineering,
Land Economy and Business Administration (with at least 2yrs working experience).
Admission to the programme will be preceded by an interview.
MPhil (Building Technology)
Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a good bachelor’s degree in Architecture,

Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering.

  • Candidates must have a minimum of two years relevant industrial or research experience.
  • Candidates must submit a suitable proposal and workable programme that fit into the construction industry and acceptable to the Departmental Board.
  • Admission to the programme will be preceded by an interview.

PhD (Building Technology)
Admission Requirements

  • A candidate shall hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering.
  • A Candidate shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the programme
  • Candidates must have a minimum of two years relevant industrial or research experience
  • Candidates must attend an interview session and pass the interview before admission
  • Candidates must submit a sustainable proposal and workable programme that fit into the construction industry and acceptable to the Department Board.

Candidates with Master’s degrees in a relevant subject from an institution other than the Department of Planning may have to do extra work to meet graduation requirements.
M.Phil in Development Studies/M.Phil in Planning: candidates with a bachelor’s degree in the second class upper division and above in a relevant subject.
Candidates with a good bachelor’s degree in relevant subject may be admitted after passing an interview. In addition to the above, candidates for admission must have at least two years relevant field or practical experience.

  1. A candidate shall hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and

ability to undertake the proposed programme.

  1. Candidates who do not hold a Master’s degree shall first register for a Master’s degree by research. If proven to be of sufficient calibre by the end of the first year of the programme, they may be permitted by the Board, to register for the PhD degree. This registration shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the Master’s degree.

III. Candidates who do not satisfy the requirement stated above but are otherwise adjudged suitable may be admitted. For the purpose of assessing his suitability, such candidates may be interviewed or be required to take entrance examination, or both, as directed by the Board
On the recommendation of the appropriate Department Board.
 

  1. Candidate may be required, on the recommendation of the Department concerned, to audit appropriate courses.

  1. (a) Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology MPhil/PhD Biochemistry

Admission Requirements
The candidate must have a minimum of first degree in the Life Sciences or Chemistry on condition that the candidate will audit basic Biology/Biochemistry courses. In rare cases where the background is lacking, the student must enrol in undergraduate classes first in order to make up the deficiencies.
MSc. Biotechnology Admission Requirements
Students applying for the programme should have adequate background in Biological Sciences/Biochemistry and/or in an appropriate related Sciences or Engineering such as Chemistry, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Renewable Natural Resources.
Students with little or no background in Biological Sciences would be expected to take selected undergraduate courses which should include at least two semesters of Cell Structure, Plant and Animal
Physiology, Genetics and Biophysics or Analytical Biochemistry as pre-requisites and to remove other deficiencies.
MPhil Human Nutrition and Dietetics Admission Requirements
The course is intended for graduates with BSc first or second class honors degrees or equivalent in Nursing, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Food Sciences, Nutrition, Medicine, Dietetics or related disciplines.
 
1b. Department of Food Science and Technology PhD Food Science and Technology
All prospective candidates in the following disciplines are eligible to apply: MPhil Food Science, MSc Food Science and Technology,
MSc Chemical Engineering or a suitable MPhil equivalent. Some candidates may have to pass an interview and/ or audit some post graduate course work.
 
MSc/M.Phil Food Science and Technology
Prospective candidates in the following discipline are eligible to apply: BSc Food Science and Technology, BSc Food Science and

Candidates must have a good first degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacy and Human
Biology. Candidates who are already employed in the relevant forensic related areas will be considered for admission.
Candidates will be admitted for FULL TIME (One & Half years for MSc and Two years for MPhil degrees), or on Part Time (Two and Three years for M.Sc and M.Phil degrees respectively)
