Who is a teller and what do they do? A teller is an employee of a bank, savings bank or a foreign exchange office. The task of a teller is to provide cash services to clients (i.e., involving money in cash) and to process cash transactions in national and foreign currencies.
What are the activities of the teller job? Activities include – cash operations in domestic and foreign currencies related to the acceptance, handing out and exchanging of money – cash operations in accepting money paid in by shop owners or managers – cash operations relating to securities, certificates and bonds – paying out the yield on securities – operating cash registers, including technical devices for the processing of money – checking whether the money being accepted is genuine, valid and intact – keeping the prescribed records of operations made – depositing valuables and documents entrusted to him/her as prescribed.
Where is it done and under what conditions? The work environment includes bank and exchange office space. The teller’s place is behind a counter. The work environment is fairly comfortable.
What tools/equipment do they use? The work is carried out using mainly computer technology, bill counting machines and other regular office equipment.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed secondary education with a school-leaving certificate; you also need concentration, precision, arithmetical skills, and reliability.
