What are the activities of an agricultural mechanic? Adjustment work, identifying why equipment is malfunctioning and carrying out medium and large-scale repairs on all types of tractors, and other agricultural machinery, incl. repairs and adjustments to mechanical, pneumatic and electrical assemblies and systems, incl. their field testing, replacement of some parts of agricultural tools or machinery, assembly, disassembly, repair and adjustment of mechanised plants for feed mixtures and crop treatment and other mechanisms used in livestock production, manufacture, renovation and adaptation of spare parts, fabrication of some machines and equipment for agricultural production purposes.
Where is it done and under what conditions? This job is mostly done in repair shops as well as in the field on machines under changing weather conditions, noise, and dirt. As the case may be, with object of work that may be hard to access.
What tools/equipment do an agricultural machinery mechanic use? Typically the usual hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, etc.), grease cups, circuit testers, measuring and diagnostic equipment, metal-working machines, drills, grinders, welding sets and dexterous hands.
What do you need to succeed? You need vocational training, manual dexterity, technical imagination, reliability and good eyesight.
