Who are they and what do they do? Weaver weave yarn, fibres and other raw materials into cloth or other textiles and produce various woven fabrics or floor coverings.
What are the activities of the job? Producing all kinds of single or multi-colour warps (long sections of horizontal threads) out of various raw materials on warping machines – sizing (during the sizing process sizing agents and textile waxes are applied to the yarn to avoid yarn breaks during weaving, thus achieving a high weaving efficiency and better quality.) the warps on various machines including preparation of sizing solutions appropriate to the particular type of raw material – preparation of the warping threads or yarn for the weaving process, threading these warps into the loom – weaving various kinds of fabric, e.g. for suits, dresses, underwear, technical fabrics, decorative fabrics – weaving ribbons, bands, (for technical applications or fashion wear) – watching out for defects in the weaving and rectifying them where they occur – production of tufted and floor fabrics, mending defects and sewing fabric into tufted textiles – cooperation in preparing and adjustment of the machines and equipment used are some of the activities of the weaver.
Where is it done and under what conditions? Mainly in weaving mills or smaller workshops, where especially increased noise levels are common.
What tools/equipment do they use? Looms and warping machines, ribbon looms, ribbon warping machines, spooling and spinning machines, sizing machines, machines for making tufted and floor fabrics, machines for the preparation of threads or yarn and other machines and equipment – and their own hands.
What do you need to succeed? You need vocational training, manual dexterity, concentration, patience and good eyesight.
