The work activities include crushing and further treatment of iron ore, iron scrap and other raw materials for steel making processes; controlling both liquid and solid materials in blast-furnaces and converters, incl. ores, additives, components and other materials, dealing with the molten metal, casting into ingot moulds and ladles, handling of furnaces in steel- and ferrous alloy making, incl. controlling the casting rates to achieve various steel grades and types, controlling complex technological processes from control rooms/panels, incl. production of special steel and alloy grades.
Where is it done and under what conditions? This job is carried out in metallurgical works and therefore exposure to extremely dusty conditions, high temperatures and noise must be expected.
What tools/equipment do they use? Tools and equipment most commonly used are various smelting-furnaces, converters, feed and casting equipment, conveyors, crushers, reservoirs, block mills, basic hand tools, as well as manual dexterity and strong legs. Protective clothing may be worn. Materials typically processed consist of iron ore, scrap and various additives.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have vocational training, overall fitness, fast reactions and a sense of discipline.
