The functions of the Department can best be described in terms of its component parts.
The Department of Mathematics/Computer Studies was established in 1994. In November 1999, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Studies was expanded to include Statistics and hence its current name as headed above.
As part of its core mandate of training students for the award of HND Statistics, the Department provides services to eleven (11) departments from the Schools of Engineering, Business and Management Studies, and Applied Sciences & Arts, in the areas of Applied Mathematics and Computer Studies. The Department has plans to introduce HND in Information Technology and also a B.Tech top-up programme for HND Statistics graduates.
VISION
The vision of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Studies is to become a centre of excellence that provides practical training to students and equip them with knowledge and skills needed to perform professional duties as statisticians and become functional members of the society in relation to census, survey, quality control and other statistical projects and activities.
OBJECTIVES
In line with the stated vision of the Polytechnic, the objective of the Department is to train students who intend to qualify as statisticians in the industries. At the end of the programme, students would have acquired skills to: solve problems in science, industry, commerce and business; teach in the basic and secondary schools; and contribute to the country’s developmental needs in research institutions and industry.

· Documents for accreditation have been prepared for the introduction of HND Information and Communication Technology (ICT), B.Tech Top-up for HND Statistics graduates.
- The Department has developed course outlines for a 4-year B-Tech programme. Work is far advanced to send the material for accreditation.
- The Department has embarked on an outreach programme to educate SHS studentsabout the HND Statistics programme.
