Air traffic safety technician
Who is an air traffic safety technician and what do they do? Air traffic safety technicians perform technical tasks concerning the design, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of air traffic control and air navigation systems.
What are the activities of an air traffic safety technician? Providing technical help in the design and layout of specific air navigation and aircraft detection tracking systems; assisting with the technical supervision of construction, installation and operation of ground-based air navigation equipment and its maintenance and repair to ensure that standards and recommendations are met; modifying existing ground-based air navigation equipment to adapt it to new air traffic control procedures.
Where is it done and under what conditions? Mainly in airport offices or rooms and on aeroplanes.
What tools/equipment do an air traffic safety technician use? Air traffic control equipment, information technology, telephone, fax, and possibly other office equipment.
What do you need to succeed? You need higher education, preferably with a specialism in air traffic technology or similar, and a special course for air traffic machine operators; you also need general technical skills
