Public Notice: University of Education not Shut down by High Court

By | June 14, 2017

Our attention has been drawn to some misrepresentations regarding our decision to temporarily shut down the University of Education, Winneba campuses in reaction to the Court directives yesterday 13th June, 2017.

We wish to clarify the misrepresentations as follows:

  1. We never said in the Press Release of 13thJune, 2017 that the Winneba High Court had ordered the closure of the University. The decision to temporarily shut down the University was based on instructions given to the stand-in legal counsel for the University that until Friday June 16, 2017 when the case is called, the University should ensure that it observed all the reliefs being sought in the injunction application and that the consequences were dire if these were not followed. Therefore the Deans, UTAG Executives, Principals and Heads of Department, being agents and assigns of the Principal Officers felt that all administrative offices should remain closed until Friday June 16, 2017 when the case is called. The decision was taken to avoid any confrontation since the counsel for the plaintiff indicated in court that he has people on the ground and would monitor the verbal directive given in court.
  2. Currently, the university is on recess and sandwich students are due to report on 15thJuly 2017 while the regular students will begin the academic year in September 2017.
  3. Admission procedures are still on-going in the university and as such prospective students would be informed accordingly when they are selected for admission into our programmes or otherwise.
  4. Prospective candidates who have applied for our post-graduate programmes and are to attend interviews would be informed accordingly when the new dates are fixed or rescheduled.

We hope these clarifications would allay the fears of all our stakeholders concerned about the recent developments in the university.
