biochemist

Who is a biochemist and what do they do? A biochemist studies and researches chemical sciences in relation to chemical processes taking place in living organisms. Biochemists may work in pharmaceutical companies, in biotechnology, food processing or agrochemicals. There are also clinical biochemists who usually work in health services.
What are the activities of the biochemist? Researches and experiments on the composition, functions and chemical processes of living organisms in order find practical applications for his/her discoveries in to solve problems in different fields of production. S/he carries out makes tests and analyses in order to find the chemical composition of the organisms, then experiments to see how these organisms react to different tests such as: the chemical action of foods, medicines, serum, hormones and other substances. S/he studies the chemical aspects of the formation of antibodies in the blood and other biochemical phenomena. May carry out research into how food can be better preserved or made more nutritional. S/he may find a wide range of biochemical applications for use in the production of drugs, food, and in agriculture, medicine, public health and other fields.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In a laboratory in a research centre or similar environment. Industrial accidents can happen when using some products, or when carrying out tests that may cause diseases, allergies or infections.
What tools/equipment do a biochemist use? Those commonly found in a laboratory..
What do you need to succeed? You need a degree in biochemical sciences. You should also have a strong interested in scientific research.
