Who is a building fitter and what do they do? A building fitter’s task is to manufacture different metal parts of buildings, assemble them into units and fit them into the buildings.
What are the activities of the building fitter? Manufacture, welding and assembly of lattices, ladders, sewer hatches, railings, steels structures, window frames, walls and doors, stairs, girders etc. – assembly of lift structures for built-in types of passenger and freight lifts, manufacture of large sized metal products of aesthetic character, e.g. large sized gates, sliding gates, display windows, etc.
Where is it done and under what conditions? Mainly on site and in workshops where there can be noise, dirt, and grease, as well as changing weather conditions and, in places, difficulties in getting access to the work.
What tools/equipment do the building fitter use? Saws, files, scissors and shears, bending machines, thread cutters, wrenches, pliers, screw drivers, units, gauges, lathes, milling machines, boring machines, grinding and drilling machines, and their own hands. The material processed is metal.
What do you need to succeed? You need apprentice training, technical knowledge, manual skill, concentration, spatial imagination, aesthetic perception, fast reactions, and the ability to improvise to a certain degree.
