Who is a camera mechanic and what do they do? The camera mechanic keeps film cameras and camera accessories in a good order and does the repair and maintenance on them. In some circumstances the work may be part of the job of a camera operator or his/her assistant.
What are the activities of the job? Repairs and adjusts cameras, taking the camera apart in the process if necessary. Tests the various parts and calibrates operations. Repairs or replaces defective or worn out parts and components. Tests and adjusts the camera once repaired. Routine maintenance is also part of the job.
Where is it done and under what conditions? This job is done in the environment of film and TV studios, as well as out in the field. Work outside normal working hours will be expected.
What tools/equipment do they use? Specialised tools and test devices, other hand tools and photographic equipment and replacement parts.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have vocational training, ability to concentrate, manual dexterity and technical understanding.
