Who is a director and what do they do? The director job is to manages work relating to the production of a film, a television or radio broadcast, a theatre or radio play. Directors are divided into film, television, radio and theatre directors. Other directors specialise in musicals, music, dubbing, etc.
What are the activities of the director? The director selects the cast for individual roles, discusses the roles with them and leads them during rehearsals. His/her activities are based on scripts that have been prepared in advance and in whose preparation the director sometimes participates, from literary works and other subjects, which s/he then develops into a film or play.
The film director job is to direct the shooting of a film. The theatre director directs rehearsals and performance of plays. The television or radio director coordinates filming and broadcasting of programs of a television and radio station so that they fit into the program, directs placement of commercials, broadcast at intervals between programs and manages necessary program changes. The dubbing director directs the dubbing of foreign films, TV soap operas, documentary programs and other works by native actors and artists, selects music and sound effects and coordinates all dubbing components. Some parts of the work relating to shooting a film, rehearsals of theatre plays or broadcasting coordination may be done by assistant directors.
Where is it done and under what conditions? According to the type of director – in theatres, studios, film studios or outdoors. Work outside usual working hours may be required.
What tools/equipment do they use? Scripts, telephones and other relevant equipment – dependent on whether a film, broadcast programme or play is being directed.
