Who is an engineering fitter and what do they do? The engine fitter’s work consists of a very wide range of activities in general engineering, particularly in piece production plants, where general workmanship skills are required rather than close specialism.
What are the activities of the engineering fitter? Preparation of simple sketches for the completion of relevant processes, marking-out/laying-out, hand processing of mechanical parts by filing, sawing, chiselling, bending, drilling, straightening, boring and thread-cutting, as well as machining of parts by lathe-turning, milling, grinding, etc., putting together machine parts and assemblies by bolting, riveting, brazing and welding, assembly of manufacturing, power-generating, transport and other machines, computer-controlled machinery, production lines and units, carrying out functional tests of machinery and equipment, handling and maintenance of used tools, machines, and other equipment.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In a very wide range of factories, engineering works and power installations, where exposure to noise, grease and other dirt must be expected.
