Who is a pest control officer and what do they do? The task of a “disinfector” is to disinfect (ensure protection against bacteria and other micro-organisms, and against insects), and to exterminate rats and other pests. May also be known as a pest control officer, if that is their main duty.
What are the activities of the pest control officer job? S/he also takes health and safety measures against infectious diseases. She/he takes samples at the places affected by infection, insects, or other pests, delimits and marks the disinfected area, and sets about the extermination of the pests or the reduction of their population.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In hospitals, surgeries, sanatoriums, residential houses as well as outdoors (e.g. when monitoring the incidence of ticks). Contact with various diseases, poisons and chemical substances may be involved and therefore a degree of risk.
What tools/equipment do they use? Disinfectants, poisons, traps, gases, and diagnostic appliances.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed a special course, maintain personal cleanliness and work methodically.
