Who is a shift engineer and what do they do? The shift engineer manages the power generation process at the power plant during the relevant shift.
What are the activities of the shift engineer job? Supervises, co-ordinates and schedules the activities of workers on that shift, deals with any emergencies, is responsible for the effective functioning of the power generation plant and for health and safety, and acts as the manager during afternoon and night shifts.
Where is it done and under what conditions? At power plants. Shift work is required.
What tools/equipment do they use? Computers and other information technology, mobile phones, timesheets and similar documents. Power station control panels as necessary.
What do you need to succeed? You need a university education, technical understanding, ability to make fast judgments and responses.
