What are the activities of the textile technologist job? His/her task includes determining technological procedures for production of textile materials, cloths and ready-made clothing products (usually the production focuses either on textile materials and cloths or on sewing ready-made clothing) – determining the organisation, procedure and technical conditions of production – determining the requirements for the purchase of production and operational equipment, machines, instruments and agents for respective production processes – itemisation of the amounts and types of materials, quality control- cooperation with clothing designers in finding the optimum design of clothing products with regard to the technological aspect of production – supervising the production.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In offices or directly in textile and clothing factories. Noise, and sometimes contact with chemical substances and shift work are inevitable.
What tools/equipment do they use? Computers and office equipment, the spoken word, sometimes also measurement and control technology.
What do you need to succeed? You need secondary, higher or university education in a subject related to the textile, clothing or leather industry, technical understanding, imagination, organisational abilities and precision.
