The upholsterer and decorator mechanically and manually cuts lining materials – prepares and processes stuffed materials and adapts them – binds and ties up springs of upholstered furniture – lightens the stuffing materials and stitches them – sews upholstery with machines and by hand – puts the prepared upholstery on furniture – professionally processes decorating materials and decorates things on the basis of documentation or designs of his/her own – adapts interiors, state rooms and exhibitions – adapts stages – mends upholstery and restores furniture – s/he also upholsters vehicles.
Where is it done and under what conditions? He/she does the job in upholstering workshops; some places of work are noisy, dusty, and upholstered items are sometimes hard to get at.
What tools/equipment do they use? The tools upholsterer and decorator most used are sewing and cutting machines, special sewing and upholstering aids, essential hand-operated tools and instruments and measuring instruments and drawing aids, he/she must be clever with his/her hands. The processed material includes especially textiles, leather and artificial leather.
