Adisadel College, reigning champions of the National Science & Maths Quiz, put up a brilliant performance on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, to keep alive their hope of retaining the trophy they won in 2016.

In what was largely a one-sided contest, the Santaclausians left nothing to chance as they dominated the five (5) rounds of competition with an impressive win.

They competed against Suhum SHTS and Nkroful Agric SHS in the ninth one-eighth stage contest.

After a shaky start in round one; Adisadel College’s contestants, Edward De-Graft Vanderpuije Quansah and Sylvester Afful Assan-Annobil, gained their composure in the second round to crash their contenders to qualify for the quarter final stage as well as seed their school for the 2018 edition of the NSMQ.

They won by a huge margin of 38 points; the highest so far in the 2017 National Science & Maths Quiz. At the end of the final contest, Nkroful Agric SHS and Suhum SHTS only managed to get 26 and 24 points respectively whilst Adisadel College pulled a total of 64 points.

Speaking to www.nsmq.com.gh after their impressive victory, the contestants, Edward and Sylvester said the hostility of their opponents’ supporters made them panic in the first round but they were able to soak the pressure in the subsequent rounds to end the contest in their favour.

They, however, attributed their first win in this year’s NSMQ to the favours of God coupled with hard work and determination.

“The task of retaining the trophy is enormous and the pressure is very high but we trust in the Lord for a successful end,” Edward said.

Adisadel College will now face Takoradi SHS and New Juaben SHS in the third (3rd) in series of Quarterfinal contests on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

So far, a total of nine (9) schools have sailed through to the quarter final stage of this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz.

The 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and supported by Tigo, GOIL, Prudential Life Insurance, Accra College of Medicine and GCB Bank.
