Founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Akua Donkor says she is ready to face Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan in court over a defamatory suit.
According to her, she has done nothing wrong to be hauled to court by someone she considered a son.
Akua Donkor’s comment follows a suit filed by Asamoah Gyan against her and Montie FM’s political talk-show host, Salifu Maase, also known as Mugabe.
The pair demanded that Gyan explains himself publicly if he was funding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last month on Montie FM’s afternoon political show.
They went on to claim that the Black Stars skipper had something to do with a 40-footer container of undisclosed items also meant for the NPP to aid in their campaign for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections in November.
This allegation, the Shanghai SIPG striker has vehemently denied and on Monday, July 4, ordered his lawyers, Cromwell Gray LLP led by Esquire Kissi Agyebeng to a writ of summons at the Accra High Court against Mugabe Mase and Akua Donkor.
Asamoah Gyan among other things claims in the suit are general, exemplary or aggravated damages for libel, a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from repeating similar libelous words against him and costs, including his lawyers’ fees.
But Akua Donkor in an interview on Adom News expressed shock at the action taken by the Black Stars captain.
She said, she was very supportive of Asamoah Gyan when he was being attacked by lawyer Maurice Ampaw thus does not understand why he will sue her.
“Asamoah Gyan has shocked me; I defended him when he was being attacked by Maurice Ampaw and even went to his mother’s funeral so I have nothing against him” she bemoaned.
This notwithstanding, Akua Donkor said she is ready to bit the bullet if invited to court.
