Who is a computer engineer and what do they do? His/her job is to ensure that computer equipment is trouble-free and most effective in operation by the user.
What are the activities of the computer engineer? Ensuring computer equipment is trouble-free and optimising its operation according to user requirements, identification and repairs of hardware defects, identification of software errors and their removal, application of testing programmes for error identification and debugging, removal of these errors and/or the re-installation of software applications, modifications to the existing programs or creation of own debugging programs to search for data errors, software maintenance and documentation, application of antiviral programs and the removal of computer viruses, using external subcontractors for repairs to computers and computer components, inviting tenders from subcontracting companies, organisation of tender procedures, issuing of orders and handling procurement procedures, equipment delivery and installation, putting new equipment into service, providing consultancy services and training for both hardware and software users.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In offices or laboratories, where the work environment causes few problems.
What tools/equipment do they use? Computer equipment, testing/debugging programs and basic hand tools.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed training at a college or, better, be the holder of a university degree related to information technology or computer hardware, possess a combination of abilities, technical awareness, be accurate, patient and able to learn.
