Who is a craft gilder and what do they do? A craft gilder applies gilding to artistic decorations and objects of various kinds.
What are the activities of the craft gilder? Gilding wooden, metal and other objects, as well as gilding decorations on the walls and other surfaces (e.g. stone). S/he renovates and applies preservative treatment (i.e. to protect against environmental impact) to gilded surfaces of historic value.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In a workshop environment. There will be some dirt, and dust, as well as quite high temperatures at times and contact with chemicals.
What tools/equipment do they use? Hand craft tools and art materials and chemicals.
What do you need to succeed? You need vocational training, concentration, practical skills, creative aptitude and a sense of the aesthetic.
