Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is currently operating a paperless campus and consequently the use of paper notices is prohibited. Offenders would be severely punished. Professor Isaac K. Dontwi, Director of the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) revealed this at the matriculation ceremonies for the Northern, Southern and Western Zones of the IDL.
Professor Dontwi advised the students to inform themselves on the general regulations of conduct as students of the University in terms of grievance procedure, admission and registration, various penalties, breach of regulations, the use of University property, banned activities, appeal procedures among others which were stipulated in the Students Guide.
He said education by distance learning was exciting but they must quickly wake up to this new order and adjust accordingly. He continued, “As a University, we are of the opinion that you are mature enough and so we deliberately operate a very liberal environment and there is a reason to this order.”
He noted that as a science and technology university, KNUST was providing a unique environment that promoted free, entrepreneurial thinking to engender innovation and development. He added, however, that there were rules in the University to guide students’ actions and inactions.
This year a total of 1879 students, made up of 1584 postgraduates and 295 undergraduates, were admitted into the Institute.
