Who is a management accountant and what do they do? The Management Accountant assists firms or private individuals in business, corporate, economic, financial, fiscal, and administrative procedures, and in correct book-keeping practices.
What are the activities of the management accountant? Administration and winding up of companies, asset management, technical expertise and guidance, financial auditing and inspection, corporate and contractual advice, guidance on commercial law, audit and inspection to check the reliability of balance sheets, accounts, ledgers and any other documents to do with companies’ accounting systems, and advice on matters of taxation. In addition, he/she may perform auditing roles in businesses and corporations where an official inspection of the accounts is anticipated.
Where is it done and under what conditions? He/she may work in a specialised department with other colleagues or carry out the role as a freelance.
What tools/equipment do they use? In the course of his/her work, the Management Accountant uses application packages specifically designed for commercial accountancy and taxation.
What do you need to succeed? A university or equivalent education is required, specialising according to the area of responsibility in which one works (administrative, financial, auditing and planning), followed by a period of training in a commercial environment.
