Who is a mechanic and what do they do? His/her job usually includes installing, activating, testing, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control equipment.
What are the activities of the mechanic? Selection and procurement of instrumentation equipment, inspecting/checking it for compliance with the requirements of regulations/technical standards, measuring and evaluation of equipment parameters, control circuit installation and stripping off, adjusting and activation of control circuits, harmonising control circuits with process equipment at installations in the field or after the overhaul of process equipment, running tests on instrumentation systems, maintenance of measurement and instrumentation systems, diagnosis of the causes of failure and troubleshooting, replacement of defective parts, components and assemblies.
Where is it done and under what conditions? Inside buildings and factories as well as outside. Sometimes there may be increased noise levels, work objects that are hard to get at, and changing weather conditions.
What tools/equipment do they use? Various pliers and screwdrivers, gauges, electric & other measuring instruments, computers. You also need the skills of your own hands.
