Who is a scaffolder and what do they do? The job of a scaffolder is to erect, disassemble and adapt scaffolding of various kinds and similar structures.
What are the activities of the scaffolder job? The scaffolder calculates and selects the necessary number of scaffolding tubes, platforms, planks and other material for the erection of a particular set of scaffolding – erects, removes and adapts various types of steel scaffolding and structures, round or inside buildings, for instance when halls, auditoriums, stadiums, etc. are repaired and protective barriers of all kinds on roofs – assembles, disassembles and adapts hoists and travelling platforms of all kinds – erects, disassembles and adapts the tubular structure of exhibition pavilions, halls and towers on the basis of given projects and calculations.
Where is it done and under what conditions? On construction sites, outdoors and indoors, you may well have to work at heights, and frequently places of work may be hard to access and weather conditions changeable.
What tools/equipment do they use? Hammers, spanners, pliers, lifting mechanisms and platforms. A scaffolder must also be agile and good with his/her hands.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed a specialised course and passed an examination, to have manual skills, physical fitness, reliability, self-discipline, the ability to work in a team, and good eyesight and hearing.
