Who is a section supervisor and what do they do? The section supervisor controls and organises the work at allotted sections of the mine or quarry. May also be known as the “mine captain”.
What are the activities of the section supervisor job? These activities include tunnelling and building shafts, extraction of coal or other minerals, mine transport, repairs and maintenance. S/he supervises the work of others and sees that safety precautions are taken, as well as examining faulty equipment, and inspecting sections for hazards and poor ventilation.
Where is it done and under what conditions? In mines and/or open pits where dust & dirt can be a nuisance, and there will be shift-working.
What tools/equipment do they use? Control panels, computer and control equipment, signalling systems, safety lamps, and other safety equipment.
What do you need to succeed? Basic qualifications for this job include a full college degree, ability to react quickly and to organise other people, to gain respect. You also need technical awareness.
