Welcome to the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cape Coast!
Our Faculty is one of the most vibrant and forward-looking Faculties in the University of Cape Coast. It is one of the first that came into being with the establishment of the University of Cape Coast in 1962.The then Department of Arts was started in March 1962 with the transfer of students and staff from the Department of Liberal and Social Studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.

Our vision to become a centre of excellence in teaching, learning, research documentation, empowerment, applications, and self-extension of Liberal Arts emboldens us to offer to our students an academic ambience where dynamic and innovative ways of learning, critical thinking, and new forms of knowledge are developed across the disciplines.
With ten academic departments, we provide the foundation in training and equipping people in the Liberal Arts for effective development of their communities by providing the space for the development of high calibre persons in critical thinking and self-reflection. Our students and highly skilled personnel in the Departments of Classics and Philosophy, English Language, French, Ghanaian Languages and Linguistics, History, Music and Dance Studies, Theatre and Film Studies, and Religion and Human Values, as well as the Centre for African and International Studies and the Information Literacy Unit work together to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the wellbeing of our communities.
You have come to the right place for your degree programme because while we reward hard work and excellent performance through the Faculty and Dean’s Awards, we also encourage all our students of different strengths to excel.
There are Departmental Students Associations and the Faculty of Arts Students Association to offer social support while you are here. You will also be guided by your departmental academic counsellors so that your stay with us will be enjoyable.
