Who are they and what do they do? The valuer focuses on a particular field, e.g. buildings, estates, cars, different sorts of raw materials, jewels, antiques, paintings or other pieces of art, etc. which he/she evaluates. In many cases the valuer may also be involved in the sale, e.g. by auction, of the goods in question, and take commission for doing so, or be employed by an insurance company or the tax authorities etc.
What are the activities of the job? The valuer determines their price, usually for the purpose of sale or inheritance, etc. A valuer provides expert evaluation of the state, age and other features of the evaluated object, with regard to valid laws, notices, regulations, and price developments. It follows that s/he must continuously monitor all laws and notices related to valuation in his/her field, as well as the price itself.
Where is it done and under what conditions? The job is carried out in normal offices and at places where the subjects to be valued are located, or directly in shops (it depends on the valuer’s specialism).
What tools/equipment do they use?Normal office and communications equipment, price lists and catalogues, legal documents and books.
What do you need to succeed? You need to have completed secondary, higher or university education in the respective field, arithmetic skills and a methodical work style.
