Who are they and what do they do? A keeper and/or breeder of wild animals kept in specialised facilities such as zoos or similar facilities.
What are the activities of the job? The zookeeper takes care of the animals, cleans their cages, prepares the food and feeds them, helps with the delivery of their young. At more senior levels, controls and oversees animal breeding (specifically exotic animals and threatened species).
Where is it done and under what conditions? Mainly in zoological gardens or breeding stations; contact with various kinds of dirt and animal hair (which may cause allergies) must be expected.
What tools/equipment do they use? Tools and equipment for feeding and cleaning the animals.
What do you need to succeed? You need to complete an apprenticeship, have a positive attitude to animals, and quick reactions. To work at a more senior level on the breeding programme, you may need a university degree, e.g. in zoology.
