13-year- old Ruth of KNUST to pursue her Masters in Computer Science;explains how she got to KNUST at age 13

History was made at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology when a 13-year-old girl named Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa got admitted to read Bsc Mathematics for the 2017/18 academic year.

Though some Ghanaians doubted the possibility of such academic achievements in Ghana, they have forgotten the same academic adventures happening in the Western world which many people applauded.

In an Exclusive interview by Kuulpeeps,with Ruth,she explains her journey as she claimed the Academic ladder till now.

In the interview, Ruth emphasized that she was 13 and could not understand why people doubted her age.

Hahaha.. Why is it hard to believe? I am 13 years of age. I was born on 29th May, 2004.” She emphasized.

She also explained, that she had lived at Prempeh College all her life because her father is a Maths Tutor in the school.

According to her, growing up as a smart kid, her dad saw a lot of potential and urged her to push higher through her education.

Ruth indicated that she attended the Christ our Hope International and later went to Abraham Lincoln School. From there, she went to St. Louis and now at the KNUST.

When asked about how she went through her Basic Education, Ruth explained,that she had her  kindergarten  for only two terms and skipped to kindergarten 2.

She  went for only a term in class four. She went to class 5 and skipped class 6 to Junior high school at the age of 9.

She wrote BECE in JHS one and entered Senior High School at age 10.

When asked whether the Skipping of class ever affected her studies, she spoke in the contrary ,saying her dad inspired her a lot and on countless number of times ,he actually told her she  can do it.

Most of the time I learn what’s ahead of me earlier with the help of my dad.” She said.

When asked whether the father influenced her decision to read Mathematics in the University, she explained that he wanted to read computer Science, but was offered Mathematics.

“I plan on pursing a second degree in computer science after I graduate. I really love maths especially calculus. My dad has really helped me in mathematics and all aspects as well.” She indicated.

About her social life,she said she had two best friends,Ella and Emefa but emphasized that she hasn’t any boyfriend.

When asked how she feels like being in the University,she said she feeol okay.

sometimes I am treated special. Even at St. Louis, I was exempted from all sort of punishments. I feel happy gaining all this attention so far.”she said.

According to Ruth,during her free times,she love to solve calculus, phone games ,listening to Gospel music and attending church.
