Arizona State University (ASU) has shown interest in expanding the degree programmes under the 3+1+1 project in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This was made known when a delegation from Arizona State University paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST.
Aryn Baxter, the leader of the delegation, explained that their visit to the University was to discuss the various programmes offered under the 3+1+1 project as well as explore more areas that would be mutually beneficial to both institutions. She stated that Arizona State University was making efforts to expand the various programmes under the 3+1+1 project by skewing some of their programmes to suit that of KNUST.
She also stated that the delegation would have an interview with students who would be later admitted into Arizona State University, learn and identify potential areas of collaboration and create opportunities for mutual learning.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to Arizona State University for the effort to nurture the 3+1+1 project. He said that Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology cherished the project and did not see the partnership as a monetary project but one that would promote the well-being of both institutions. He said that the University was willing to put the available tools in place for the project to run smoothly.
Professor Obiri-Danso said that the doors of the University were wide open to Arizona State University to spend some time to run programmes, teach and have exchange programmes for its students. He also urged the delegation to explore opportunities in the Masters and PhD programmes beside the 3+1+1 project.
The Provosts from the various colleges also shared ideas on the various programmes and processes that the University could adopt from Arizona State University.
The 3+1+1 project is a scholarship programme offered by Arizona State University to undergraduate students of KNUST. Beneficiaries of this scholarship would spend three years of their undergraduate course at KNUST, do the final undergraduate year in Arizona State University after which KNUST would award a degree to the candidate. Arizona State University would also award a Masters Degree certificate after the beneficiary has gone through a one-year masters course.
