College of Engineering Opens Career Fair

The College of Engineering (CoE) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially opened the sixth annual career fair. The Career Fair runs from Thursday 23rd February to Saturday 25th February 2017 in the College auditorium. This year’s event has witnessed 18 of the industrial partners of the College registering and exhibiting at the fair.

Prof. Mark Adom-AsamoahProfessor Mark Adom-Asamoah, Provost of the CoE, in opening the event, stated that the College had a conviction that to achieve its aim of producing high calibre graduates they need to work closely with industry hence their engagement with them.

According to Professor Adom-Asamoah, the career fair offered industrial partners an opportunity to share their experiences with students as well as showcase some of their products. It was also an opportunity for the students to hear from their future employers. The fair would give the college the opportunity to deepen its relationship with its industrial partners and also to explore new areas for further collaboration.

In an interview Dr. Fred Owusu Nimo explained that the fair was intended to provide a forum for the top engineering firms to present their organizations to students and also for them to commence the process of recruiting directly from the College.

For graduating students, it is an excellent opportunity to come face to face with these engineering companies as well as discover opportunities available in their fields of study. The presentations from the companies will also educate students on what is expected of graduates in terms of qualifications, skills and personal strengths.

Dr. Owusu Nimo stated that students would have the opportunity to sit for aptitude tests and interviews for employment, national service and internships.

This year’s fair have companies such as Volta River Authority, GridCo, Huawei, Ghana National Petroleum Company, GN Electronics, Tullow Ghana Limited, Schlumberger, Cummins Ghana Limited, Air Liquide Ghana and General Electric as exhibitors. Others are GNPC-TECHNIP Engineering Services Limited, SANDVIK Mining and Construction Ghana Limited, APCS Automation, Constructura Norberto Odebrecht, Process and Plant Automation Limited, Premium Technologies, Unilever Ghana and Vodafone Ghana.
