Appreciation for Retired Staff

Mr. Vincent Ankamah Lomotey (rght) presenting a Citation to Prof. Victoria Dzobgefia

Vincent Ankamah Lomotey, the Registrar of the College of Science of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called for appreciation and recognition for staff who spent their productive years working for the University. Mr. Lomotey made this statement at the first ever appreciation day organised by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology for retired staff. The event brought together retired and retiring staff, faculty and students of the Department.

Mr. Lomotey lamented that such people have made several contributions and inputs to the development of their institutions and are still valuable to the system but management does not reward them. It is therefore laudable that the Department of Biotechnology had seen it prudent to reward retiring staff.

He also called on government and university authorities to consider increasing the retiring age from sixty (60) to sixty five (65) especially for medically fit staff as many retirees are still healthy and strong and have a lot to offer the university considering their knowledge and experience.

The Head of Department, Dr. Hilary Dzakpaa, reiterated the importance of the event saying that most of the retirees had spent their entire life working for the Department and the University. The retired staff had trained and mentored so many students some of whom are currently members of faculty. The event was therefore to celebrate and to show gratitude to them.
