The Guarantee Trust (GT) Bank Ghana Limited has donated ten (10) Apsonic Yoboro motorbikes valued at GHC45,000 cedis to the University Security Services of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The donation, according to Lekan Sanusi, the Managing Director, forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility. Mr. Sanusi stated that GT Bank’s donation is a response to earlier interaction with management a few months ago. He added that majority of his staff were from KNUST and they were hard-working and well-behaved. As an interested stakeholder, the bank, therefore, saw it as a great opportunity to support the University.
Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, stated that the donation was timely especially with the ever-increasing population of students and staff. He noted that in managing security on campus, the mobility of security personnel should be facilitated as a unit and in their joint operations with the Ghana Police Service. He remarked that the University also provided security for the surrounding communities. The University was therefore grateful to GT Bank for supporting the security personnel with some logistics.
The Chairman of Council, Kwame Saarah-Mensah, in receiving the motorbikes expressed his gratitude on behalf of Council and Management. He stated that in 1969 KNUST had about 1,400 students. The University had grown beyond expectation as currently, the student population stood at nearly 50,000. It therefore posed a great challenge which called for support.
Mr. Lekan Sanusi was accompanied by Ben Ackah-Mensah, Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Emmanuel Sampson and other members of staff of the Kumasi branch of the bank.
