The Ashanti regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has set July 2 to hold the Manhyia North primary, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Sam Pyne has revealed.

According to him, strict measures have been put in place to ensure that the exercise runs smoothly.

“We are going to have the parliamentary primaries on Saturday that is the 8th of July. We expect that everybody will be calm, and will go and make their own informed choices. Somebody who can lead the party and will foster peace and unity. It is my belief that as much as we have gone through laws and we have settled on matters peace and tranquility will prevail and the best person will be selected…I believe that there will not be any postponement,” he said.

The three aspirants include incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Collins Owusu Amankwah, Richard Osei Bamfo and Kwesi Konadu.

Sam Pyne further stated that the three had successfully gone through the vetting processes without challenges and assures voters of no postponement.

The constituency is the only one in the region that has not yet elected a parliamentary candidate for the party due to alleged irregularities.

The primary had to be postponed several times after Mr. Owusu Amankwah, and his only competitor Nana Osei Bamfoe, questioned the credibility of the register, claiming among others that it was bloated.
