Tigo leads CSR in Ghana with Shelter 4 Education programme

Tigo Ghana has unveiled its new flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme dubbed Shelter 4 Education with a donation of a brand new six unit classroom school to the chief and people of Obeng Yaw village, a farming community situated in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Obeng Yaw Basic School is the first among six basic schools expected to be built under Tigo Ghana’s Shelter 4 Education project in deprived communities scattered across five region of the country.

At a colourful ceremony to hand over the keys of the new classroom building to the Chief and people of Obeng Yaw community the Chief Executive Officer of Tigo Ghana Roshi Motman acknowledged Shelter 4 Education as Tigo’s new programme which will over the next few months focus its attention on renovating makeshift school structures and also building new to replacing some old ones in some communities in the country.

She noted that Tigo as a brand is interested in the welfare of the people that makes it business thrive hence embarking on an initiative geared towards empowering the young ones in these communities through education. “Education is key in the building a great nation and for Tigo, we want to contribute in shaping the lives of these children, who in future will build Ghana. Helping them get quality basic education is important because that is the foundation to shaping their dreams and ensuring they help build a better Ghana” she said.

The Chief of the village Nana Obeng Yaw II in his remarks expressed his profound appreciation to Tigo Ghana for their kind gesture and promised to take good care of the new school block to ensure that every child in the community benefits from it.

The six unit classroom block comes with Headmaster’s office, Staff common room and a KVIP. Aside that Tigo provides school uniforms, sandals, exercise books and other learning materials.

Communities earmarked for this year‘s Tigo Ghana  Shelter 4 Education programme includes Ejura Sekyere-Dumase MA School, St Joseph Primary School in Obuasi all in the Ashanti Region, Tupaa Basic School in Ga South of the Greater Accra Region, Obeng Yaw Basic School in Adieso of the Eastern Region, Dimabi Nursery and Primary School in Tolon Kumbumgu of the Northern Region and Banda Ahenkro MA School in Banda Ahenkro of the Brong Ahafo Region.
