PRE-HND ACCESS PROGRAMMES

The above-named programme has been designed to provide opportunity to students with Technical/Vocational educational background to pursue a one-year Access Course in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
The Final Examination will be conducted by the National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) after which successful applicants shall proceed to enroll in the Higher National Diploma programme. For a candidate to qualify to be admitted to the HND programme he/she must obtain a minimum pass of 50% in each of the three (3) subjects namely: English Language, Mathematics and Science.

Takoradi Technical University Admission Requirements

BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (B. TECH) PROGRAMMES

Entry Requirements
i.  Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality Management
HND graduates of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management from a recognized Polytechnic or equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division.
 
ii.  Bachelor of Technology in Tourism Management
HND graduates of Tourism or Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management from Ghanaian Polytechnics or equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division.
 
iii.  Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Art (Textiles Option) 
 Applicants must hold HND certificates in Commercial Art (Textiles) or HND (Fashion Design) of at least 2nd Class (Lower Division), from recognized tertiary institutions.
 
iv.  Bachelor of Technology Industrial Art (Printing Option)
Applicants must hold HND certificate in Commercial Art (Graphics) of at least 2nd Class Lower Division from an accredited tertiary institution.
 
v.  Bachelor of Technology in Procurement
HND graduates of Purchasing and Supply from Ghanaian Polytechnics or equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division.
Applicants in addition to the above should have at least two years post qualification working experience.
Candidates with equivalent qualifications/certificates can seek clarification from the Office of the Registrar.

HND PROGRAMMES

Entry Requirements
 1.  HND ACCOUNTANCY

  1. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have in passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).

 

  1. i)  G. C. E. APPLICANTS must have Five (5) GCE “O” Level passes including English Language and        Mathematics or

ii) Five (5) RSA II/Ghana Commercial Examination Stage II including English Language and Mathematics plus any of the following:

  1. Three (3) ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects or
  2. Three (3) RSA III passes or
  3. Diploma in Business Studies Certificate from a recognized Polytechnic.

2. HND BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

  1. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language,   Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).

B. GCE APPLICANT must have three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in three (3) subjects at ‘A’ Level including Mathematics and in addition, candidate must have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
C. CTC II (NEW SCHEME)
Candidates must in addition have a minimum of five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English,  Science, Mathematics and two (2) electives.
3. HND CIVIL ENGINEERING
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. GCE APPLICANT must have three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
C. Final Construction Technician Certificate (CTC II or III): Candidate must have in addition five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE including English, Mathematics and a Science Subject.
4. HND COMMERCIAL ART (Ceramics, Graphic Design, Painting, Sculpture, Textiles options)
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. APPLICANT must have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects.
C. Advanced Craft Certificate in Painting and Decorating plus four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics.
D. Intermediate Certificate in Painting and Decoration (P&D) plus six (6) SSSCE/WASSCE passes  including English and Mathematics.
5. HND ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. APPLICANT must have three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Additional Mathematics and Physics plus one other elective pass in Chemistry or Applied Electricity/Electronics, plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two (2) subjects.
C. EET II or EET III passes in the component plus five (5) GCE credit passes at ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics.
D. EET I passes in all THREE (3) component plus five (5) course including Core English and Mathematics at SSSCE/WASSCE Level.
6. HND FASHION DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. APPLICANT must have five (5) GCE Ordinary Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and Clothing or Textiles plus any three (3) relevant GCE Advanced Level subjects.
C. Advanced and Intermediate Certificates in Fashion plus five (5) passes in GCE Ordinary Level including English Language and Mathematics or SSSCE/WASSCE passes in Core English and Mathematics and three (3) relevant electives.
7. HND FURNITURE DESIGN AND PRODUCTION
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. APPLICANT must have three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
8. HND HOTEL, CATERING & INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. 812/2 Certificate plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics or five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English Language, Mathematics and Science, with a minimum of 3 years post qualification working experience in a related establishment.
9. HND MARKETING
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. (i)  APPLICANT must have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics; or
(ii) RSA II/Ghana Commercial Examination Stage II with passes in five (5) subjects including English  Language and Mathematics plus any of the following:

  1. Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects;
  2. Three (3) RSA III passes or
  3. Diploma in Business Studies Certificate

10. HND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING: (Production, Plant, Automobile, Refrigeration/Air-Conditioning options)
Candidates are advised to indicate their option. However, a candidate may be offered an alternative option if the preferred option cannot be offered.
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. GCE APPLICANTS must have any of the following combinations:
i. Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Physics plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and Chemistry.
ii. Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes including Mathematics and Chemistry plus five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and Physics.
iii. Technician Part II or III Certificates plus either of the following:

  1. SSSCE/WASSCE passes in core English Language and Mathematics and two (2) electives.
  2. GCE ‘O’ Level passes in English, Mathematics and two (2) other subjects.

11. HND PURCHASING AND SUPPLY
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. (i) GCE applicant must have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
(ii) In addition, applicant must possess any of the following:

  1. Three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes or
  2. Three (3) passes in RSA III or
  3. Diploma in Business Studies Certificate

12. HND SECRETARYSHIP AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. GCE ‘A’ Level Applicants must have three (3) relevant GCE ‘A’ Level passes plus five (5) O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
C. DBS Applicants: DBS certificate plus four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE English Language and Mathematics, and passes in two (2) SSSCE/WASSCE electives.
D. Diploma in Office Management: A diploma in Office Management Certificate plus passes in  SSSCE/WASSCE in English Language and Mathematics and two (2) SSSCE/WASSCE electives.
E. Senior Stenographer/Stenographer Grades I and II plus four (4) GCE or SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics. Applicants with no GCE/SSSCE English and Mathematics must pass a written examination in both subjects administered by the Polytechnic. Applicants must also pass an interview.
13. HND STATISTICS
A. SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS must have passes in three (3) core subjects namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The total aggregate should be 36 or better on the WASSCE scale and aggregate 24 or better on the SSSCE scale (Refer to last page of brochure).
B. (i) GCE Applicants must have five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics plus three (3) GCE ‘A’ Level passes in relevant subjects.
