University of Mines and Technology UMaT 2018/2019 Admission Forms

The University of Mines and Technology UMaT will announce to the general public that applications are open for the admission of prospective applicants into various undergraduate programmes for the 2018/2019 academic year in January 2018.
The University of Mines and Technology 2018/2019 Admission Forms will be released in January 2018
All prospective applicants are advised to visit the University’s website www.umat.edu.gh and carefully read all relevant information and guidelines before applying. As a policy, the University admits applicants from all races and nationalities, irrespective of their religious, cultural, social or ethnic persuasions.
There is no minimum age limit for admission to any of the approved programmes of study of the University. All Bachelor degree programmes take a duration of 8 semesters (4 years) to complete.
 

HOW TO APPLY FOR UMaT ADMISSION

GHANAIAN APPLICANTS
Application forms (E-Voucher) can be purchased at all branches of the following institutions:

  • Ghana Post Office
  • Ecobank
  • Zenith Bank
  • Access Bank
  • Fidelity Bank

UMaT Application Procedure

1.The Banks and the Post Offices have been furnished with a list of serial numbers and their corresponding Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) for the sale of the forms.
2.On the payment for the forms, the Banks and the Post Offices will issue a payment receipt containing a unique serial number with its corresponding PIN per each form purchased.
3.The serial number and the PIN will be used by the applicant as the login details on the UMaT Online Admission System (UMaT online Application Portal)
4.All registration will be done ONLINE.
Candidates who will write the WASSCE in 2018 can applybut MUST add their results to their ONLINE applications when the results are release. Applicants should know that only results provide at the time of the application will be used in selecting students.

UMaT uses the grading system of WASSCE for the selection of candidates and grades aggregate of 36 is the minimum entry requirement. The following table shows this grading system and the SSSCE equivalent grades.

The minimum entry requirement is aggregate 36 for applicants with WASSCE and 24 for applicants with SSSCE.
Applicants with Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates
Applicant must have GCE Ordinary Level Certificate or its equivalent with passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and GCE Advanced Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Mature Applicants
Applicants should be at least 25 years of age and should have SSS or GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject plus experience in the relevant area of study in addition to passing an Entrance Examination and / or an interview. Mature applicants must also possess birth certificates which are, at least, five (5) years old after the date of issue.
Fee-Paying Applicants
Applicants who satisfy UMaT’s minimum entry requirement of aggregate 36 but cannot meet the competitive departmental cut-off aggregate can apply for admission provided they have sponsorship to cover their full fees throughout their study at UMaT. All fee paying applicants must select “Fee-Paying” under source of funding while completing their  applications forms.
International Students
International applicants from accredited/recognized institutions with equivalent qualifications will be considered for admission.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE 
Applicants with international Baccaleureate in science are eligible to apply. Such applicants must also possess a proficiency certificate in English. Please note that all certificates should be translated into English. Equivalences with regard to the certificates would be sought at the National Accreditation Board.
SSSCE/WASSCE
Six (6) credits with aggregate 24 or better at the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WAEC/SSSCE) including English Language and Mathematics and the elective subjects relevant to the choice of programme or their equivalent.

University for Mines and Technology UMaT Fees

The University of Mines and Technology fees depends on the programmes being offered. Generally, Ghanaian students pay a little bit less than foreign students. This is because the government of Ghana normally subsidizes the tuition fees for tertiary Ghanaian students in the country.
