UNIVERSITY OF GHANA, LEGON SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES
GRADUATE ADMISSIONS INTO MODULAR/SANDWICH
PROGRAMMES FOR THE 2016-2017 ACADEMIC YEAR
It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that the
School of Graduate Studies is offering the under-listed sandwich/modular programmes, leading
to the award of Master of Arts and Master of Science Degrees. The programmes will be run on
the main University of Ghana campus, Legon, during the long vacation, normally referred to as
the Third Semester –from June to August 2016. Each cohort of admitted students on these
programmes will therefore study over two long vacation periods to obtain the equivalence of one
academic year (or two semesters).
The following sandwich programmes are available for the 2016/2017 academic year:

MA Teaching English as a Second Language – Linguistics
MA Public Affairs – Political Science
MA Contemporary English Studies – English
MA Information Studies – Information Studies
MA Theatre Arts – Theatre Arts, School of Performing Arts
MA Migration Studies – Migration Studies
MA Marketing Strategy – University of Ghana Business School
MA Organizational Leadership & Governance – University of Ghana Business School
MSc Accounting & Finance – University of Ghana Business School
MSc Financial Risk Management – University of Ghana Business School
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMMES
1. A good first degree (at least a second class lower division) in a relevant field of study at
the University of Ghana or any recognized University.
For more details in respect of Admission Requirements, applicants are advised to
contact the implementing Department/School/Institute/Centre for additional information
on the various programmes.
PROGRAMME- SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER DETAILS
1. MA Public Affairs
A minimum of three years working experience in the private or the public sectors is
required from prospective applicants. Applicants must also pass an entrance examination
and an interview.
2. MA Teaching English as a Second Language(TESL)
Applicants for this programme must be people teaching English at the basic, secondary
and tertiary levels.
3. MSc in Accounting and Finance
Applicants must either hold a good first degree in any of the following areas:Accounting,
Commerce and Finance or a Professional Accounting qualification.
4. MSc in Financial Risk Management
Applicants must have background in any of areas: Finance, Risk Management,
Insurance,Acturial Science,Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, statistics
and Physics.

5. MA in Contemporary English Studies
The programme is intended for persons in any field of study, including journalists, public
relations personnel, business executives, teachers and public servants. You do not need a
degree in English to apply.
TUITION
a. Ghanaians
The tuition fee for non -Business Programmes – GH¢3,616.00 per semester
The tuition Fees for International Applicants:
Non-Business Programmes
West African Nationals – $2,703.00 per semester (long vacation)
Other African Nationals -$3,446.00 per semester (long vacation)
Non-African Nationals -$4,559.00 per semester (long vacation)

ENTRANCE EXAMMINATIONS
Entrance examinations will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 9.00am for the following
programmes:

MA Theatre Arts – Department of Theatre Arts
HOW TO APPLY
University of Ghana application e-vouchers can be obtained by Ghanaian applicants for
GH¢180.00 at the following banks: Zenith Bank, Merchant Bank, Ecobank, HFC Bank,
Agricultural Development Bank, Unibank, Ghana Commercial Bank and Fidelity Bank.
Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the voucher when completing the online
application form.
Applicants who did not graduate from the University of Ghana must submit the
following documents online (Scan and Attach):
i. Bachelor’s Degree Certificate
ii. Transcript
The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the
application.
Applicants who graduated from this university should scan and attach only their Bachelor’s
degree certificates to their applications.
All applicants who graduated from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their
‘STUDENT IDENTITY NUMBERS’ on their forms before submission.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS AND GHANAIANS APPLYING FROM ABROAD

fee of US$110.00.

Note that no application will be processed without proof- of – payment of the fee.
