New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abetifi in the Eastern Region, Peter Wiafe Pepera has passed on Saturday.

Pepera, 62, passed while on admission at the 37 Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

His daughter confirmed the news of his passing to Joy News.

An industrial consultant by profession, Mr. Pepera was the Managing Director of Paramount Distilleries.

He was a member of the Committee of Privileges, House Committee as well as the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee of Parliament.

According to an update on, unconfirmed reports say he suffered from a cardiac arrest.

The 62-year old MP was once a minister in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration before joining the NPP in 2001.

He was a Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee in Parliament. The late celebrated his 62nd birthday on May 9, and died today, [Saturday], May 21.

He becomes the second NPP MP to have died in the Eastern Region, after Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who was stabbed to death at his home in Accra in February.
