THE ENTREPRENEURIAL WATCH

DEMO Africa is one of the flagship initiatives of LIONS@frica and aims at connecting African startups to the global entrepreneurial web. DEMO Africa is the place where the most innovative firms from African countries get a platform to launch their products and announce to Africa and the world what they have developed.

As part of their entrepreneurial and capacity builiding, DEMO AFRICA opens application for business entities across the continent to participate in their annual conference.
This year’s conference to be held in Nigeria will see the top 30 firms from over 600 applications selected by a panel of Pan-African adjudicators to launch their products and pitch their ideas to Africa and the rest of the world.

One of the two Ghanaian firms that made the list is Flippygh.

Flippy Campus is a mobile application built by the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology student, David Mumuni and his team.
This group of student intend to help students on various campus across the nation access and share information easily and cost free; all that is required is an internet connection and of course the app installed on your mobile device.
The innovator of the app,David Mumuni said his motivation for building the app was as a result of a bitter experience he had a few years ago: he missed an important quiz because he had forgotten the date and time.

With the app, students can access specific notice boards on their campuses to get a minute-by-minute update of information posted on these notice boards, all on their mobile device.
According to David, Flippy Campus creates a virtual notice board that reflects exactly what students would find on campus and fits onto their phones.
Students can access their timetables, get reminders for interim assessments (IAs) and examination through the app.

The app,he said, was recently launched at University of Ghana and has received mammoth reviews so far.
“In less than a week, more than 1,000 downloads were made.
On February 14, Valentine’s Day — over 300 students used the app to find out what events are happening and where to hang out with their loved ones,” he added.

Currently, the application only supports Android platforms and can easily be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
He also added that, he received lots of requests to propagate Flippy Campus for Windows, IPhones and Blackberry devices as well.

David envisions the app to soon diffuse to students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC) and other universities across the country.

Start up something today and bring that idea to life now!!
